ประวัติ

ศาลากลางจังหวัดนนทบุรี (หลังเก่า) ตั้งอยู่ริมฝั่งตะวันออกของแม่น้ำเจ้าพระยา ลักษณะอาคารเป็นแบบ โคโลเนียล  ผังรูปสี่เหลี่ยมผืนผ้าล้อมรอบลานล่าง มีระเบียงรอบทั้งชั้นบนชั้นล่าง อาคารนี้เดิมเป็นอาคารเรียนของโรงเรียนราชวิทยาลัย ซึ่งก่อสร้างขึ้นในปี พ.ศ. 2454 รัชสมัยพระบาทสมเด็จพระมงกุฎเกล้าเจ้าอยู่หัว ต่อมาในรัชกาลที่ 7 ประเทศไทยประสบภาวะเศรษฐกิจตกต่ำ โรงเรียนจึงถูกยุบไปรวมกับโรงเรียนมหาดเล็กหลวง จนกระทั่งพ.ศ. 2541 พระบาทสมเด็จพระปกเกล้าเจ้าอยู่หัว ทรงโปรดเกล้าฯ ให้ย้ายศาลากลางจังหวัดนนทบุรีจากท่าเรือตลาดขวัญมาตั้ง ณ อาคารนี้ สมัยนั้นผู้ว่าราชการจังหวัดนนทบุรีคือพระยาศิริชัยบุรินทร์ (เปี่ยม หงสเดช) เมื่อศาลากลางจังหวัดได้ย้ายไปในปี 2533 อาคารนี้ก็ได้เปลี่ยนการใช้สอยเป็นที่ทำการวิทยาลัยมหาดไทย สถาบันดำรงราชานุภาพ  ทางปีกขวาและด้านหลังอาคารเป็นพื้นที่ที่ได้อนุญาตให้โรงเรียนอนุบาลธนบุรีใช้ อาคารนี้ได้รับการบูรณะให้อยู่ในสภาพดี และกรมศิลปากรได้ขึ้นทะเบียนโบราณสถานเมื่อวันที่ 28 เมษายน 2524

History

The former Nonthaburi Provincial Hall is located on the eastern bank of Chaophraya River. The architecture is Colonial style with rectangular plan surrounding an open court. Both of the first floor and ground floor are surrounded by verandahs. Originally, this building was a school house of Ratchawittayalai School, built in 1911, The reign of King Rama VI. The school operated until the reign of King Rama VII that that it had to be united with Mahadlek College due to economic downfall. Later in 192, the king had the provincial hall moved from Talad Khwan Pier to be situateat the building. At that time, Phraya Sirichaiburin (Piam Hongsadet) was the Government of Nonthaburi.

When the provincial hall moved again in 1990, the building became the office of the Mahadthai College, Damrong Rajanubhab Institute. The right wing and the rear of the building are granted for the use of the use of Thon Buri Kindergarten. The building is well restored and registered as National Monument by Fin Arts Depatrment on 28th April, 1981.
